Dear Good Shepherd
Advocates,
I hope you have been enjoying
the Olympics. You don't have to be too sad when they end this weekend because the National Conventions will begin on Monday
the 25th with the Democrats and continue with the Republicans on September 1st. Be sure to tune in- NAC contributed to the
movement by the Interfaith Domestic Violence Coalition to change the language regarding Domestic Violence in the platforms.
Do your democratic duty and get informed!
Speaking
of getting informed, here is an easy way. Go to www.votethecommongood.com. This website emerged from a Catholic conference I attended last month sponsored by NETWORK and Catholics
in Alliance for the Common Good. They spent a great deal of time compiling a Platform for the Common Good
using the Catholic faith and the US Constitution.
ACTION ALERT!!
I encourage you to look at the
platform, sign on and take the 8 in '08 challenge! Email 8 people and ask them to sign on as well.
You don't have to be Catholic to sign onto the platform, so take a moment to brainstorm about your extended family
and friends who might like to think about the upcoming election from a new perspective.
Teaser
from the platform: "embrace the goals of both the US and the global campaigns to eliminate poverty and to increase access
to quality education, living wage jobs, safe housing, nutritious food, and comprehensive, quality healthcare."
Don't wait! Click on
this link right now to sign the platform. The platform will be presented to both campaigns at their conventions,
so this is the week to take action!
Thank
you as always for your prayers and impassioned action.
In peace,
Meghan
